Biography
Jada Pinkett Smith is an American actress and singer who is married to Will Smith. She is best known for her roles in the films The Nutty Professor and Collateral.
Jada Koren Pinkett was born on September 18, 1971 in Baltimore, Maryland. Her father, Robson Pinkett Jr. was a contractor and her mother, Adrienne Banfield a nurse. However, they were divorced just a few months after their marriage. As a child, Jada studied music and dance. She then majored in acting at the Baltimore School for the Arts. Upon graduation, she studied at the North Carolina School of the Arts. However, she quit after a year and shifted to Los Angeles to focus on her acting career.
It was in 1991 that Jada got her first break when she was cast as a college freshman on the television situational comedy A Different World.
In 1993, Jada made her film debut with her role as Lena James in Menace II Society. She was acclaimed for her dramatic performance, but she did not quite make it big.
In 1994, she acted in her first lead role in Jason's Lyric. She also acted that year along with Keenan Ivory Wayans in comedy A Low Down Dirty Shame. She next starred in another comedy The Inkwell. In 1995, she ventured into the horror genre with Tales from the Crypt Presents: Demon Knight.
However, it was with her role in The Nutty Professor (1996) opposite Eddie Murphy that she made it big and became famous. She then worked in many high-profile films like Set It Off, Scream 2, Woo, and Bamboozled.
In 1997, Jada married actor and rapper Will Smith, whom she met in 1995 on the sets of the series starring Will Smith The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Apparently, Jade tried for the role of Will Smith's girlfriend but did not make it. But they went on to be one of the hottest couples. They have two kids, son Jaden Christopher Syre Smith born in July 1998 and daughter Willow Camille Reign Smith born in October 2000.
Being a mother hasn't stopped Jada's ascent to stardom. In 2002, she acted opposite Will Smith in Ali. In 2003, she made it big with the role of Niobe in The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. In 2004, she was seen as Jamie Foxx's co-star in Collateral. In 2005, Jada lent her vocals to "Gloria the Hippo" in the animated film, Madagascar.
Jada is also an accomplished singer. She is the vocalist in Wicked Wisdom, an Alternative metal band. The band released the album Wicked Wisdom in 2006.
Jada is also involved in directing music videos and the creation of a women's apparel line called "Maja".
