Videos more videos Biography Gwen Stefani is a multi-talented American singer, fashion designer, actress, and the front woman of the pop band No Doubt. Till date, she is the only person to win both the Best Male Video and Best Female Video categories at the MTV Video Music Awards in the same year. In 2001, Moby won Best Male Video for "South Side", which featured Stefani, and Eve won Best Female Video for "Let Me Blow Ya Mind", which also featured Stefani. Gwen Stefani was born on October 3, 1969 in Fullerton, California. She has a lot of European blood in her veins. Her father, Dennis Stefani, is an Italian American, and her mother Patti Flynn is of Irish and Scottish descent. Gwen has three siblings; sister, Jill, and brothers, Eric and Todd. Gwen started her career with No Doubt as a co-vocalist. Gwen's brother Eric and his friend Spence had started the band in 1987. Spence was the lead vocalist while Eric was the keyboardist. Tony Kanal was the band's bassist. Gwen and Tony Kanal became romantically involved and were seeing each other for the next seven years. The band began with playing at the local parties and soon became popular in the area. However, when Spence, the original lead vocalist of No Doubt committed suicide in 1987, the job of the lead vocalist passed on to Gwen. Guitarist Tom Dumont and drummer Adrian Young joined the band in 1989. By this time, No Doubt, due to their energetic live performances, had begun attracting a fan base. In 1990, Flea, the Red Hot Chili Peppers' bassist, recorded a demo for the band. The demo impressed Interscope Records and a deal between the record company and No Doubt was signed. The deal helped the band in releasing their self-titled debut album in 1992. However, major commercial success eluded the album. Naturally, Interscope Records was not too enthused. However, demonstrating persistence, No Doubt went ahead with own money and in 1995, released their sophomore effort, Beacon Street Collection. The album struck a chord with their devout fans and also re-established Interscope's confidence in the band. Around the same time, Gwen and Tony Kanal broke-up after being together for seven years. Gwen was devastated and went through a period of depression. She began writing her own songs. In 1995, No Doubt released their third album, Tragic Kingdom. Most of the songs were about the heartbreak that Gwen suffered when her relationship with Tony ended. The album sold over 10 million copies in the US and included the hit singles "Just a Girl", "Spiderwebs", and "Don't Speak." The album went on to become a Billboard No. 1, and garnered two Grammy nominations for the group. But, Eric wasn't in the band to taste this success. He had left the band to become an animator on The Simpsons. In 2000, No Doubt released Return of Saturn. The album included the hits "Ex-Girlfriend" and "Simple Kind of Life." In 2001, No Doubt released Rock Steady. The major hits from the album were "Hey Baby" and "Hella Good." After numerous nominations in the past, the band finally picked up two Grammy Awards, both in the category of "Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal," for "Hey Baby" and "Underneath It All." In 2004, Gwen made her solo debut with Love. Angel. Music. Baby. (L.A.M.B). The album featured hits like "What You Waiting For?", "Rich Girl", and "Hollaback Girl". The latter became the first U.S. digital single to exceed sales of one million. Riding on L.A.M.B's success, Gwen has created a successful fashion line with the same name, which showcases clothing that Stefani is often seen wearing. Gwen married her long-time boyfriend of more than five years, Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale, on September 14, 2002 and gave birth to her son, Kingston James McGregor Rossdale, in 2006. Gwen is also trying her hand at acting and was seen in a small role in The Aviator (2004). Knowing, Gwen, she might just be the next biggest thing in Hollywood.
