Biography
Jeremy Sumpter is an American actor. He is best known for his role as Peter Pan in the film Peter Pan (2003).
Jeremy Robert Myron Sumpter was born on February 5, 1989 in Monterey, California. His parents Gary Sumpter and Sandra Johnson raised him in the small town of Mount Sterling, Kentucky along with his two sisters who are also actresses. He has a twin, Jessica and a younger sister Jennifer. When he was 11 years old, his family shifted to Lexington, Kentucky. Out there, he had his first tryst with showbiz when he started modeling. He went on to win IMTA's Pre-Teen Male Model of the Year award in 2000. Soon after, he moved along with his family to Los Angeles and he started focusing on his acting career.
It was not long before that Jeremy got his first break. In July 2000, at the age of 13 years, he landed the role of Peter Pan. While he was shooting for the film, his height increased eight inches from 5 ft 0 in to 5 ft 8 in. The production team had to resort to filming and staging tricks to conceal the increase in his height. Jeremy learnt sword fighting and did all the stunts himself. He practiced every day for nearly five hours. He also took training in gymnastics. The $140 million-budgeted film was shot in Australia and opened in December 2003. Unfortunately, it lost out to The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King at the box office and didn't do that well. However, Jeremy gained a lot of from the film. His performance was received well and he won the Saturn Award for Best Performance by a Younger Actor and the Young Artist Award for Best Performance by a Younger Actor.
Meanwhile, in 2002, he played the role of young Adam in the film Fraility for which he won the nomination for Saturn Award for Best Performance by a Younger Actor.
Jeremy next landed the lead role in the television series Clubhouse co-starring Dean Cain. The short-lived series was about a teenager's passion for baseball.
In 2005, Jeremy acted in the lead role in the Lifetime television film Cyber Seduction: His Secret Life. In the film, he played the role of a high school swimming champion who gets addicted to Internet pornography.
In 2006, Jeremy played the role of Gavin Gore in the comedy The Sasquatch Dumpling Gang.
On the personal front, Jeremy enjoys playing various sports such as surfing, basketball, football, baseball, snowboarding, tennis, soccer, hiking, swimming, roller-blading, and golf. In 2005, he took part in the Eddie Money Golf Tournament, a celebrity golf tournament in Northern California in which his team finished third.
