Videos more videos Biography Hilary Duff is an American actress and pop music artist. She also models and runs her line of fashion wear. Hilary Erhard Duff was born on September 28, 1987 in Houston, Texas. Her father, Robert Erhard Duff, was the owner of a chain of convenience stores. Her mother, Susan Colleen Cobb, was a housewife. Hilary has an elder sister, Haylie Katherine Duff. When Hilary was six, she and her sister participated in the ballet, The Nutcracker Suite with Columbus Ballet Met in San Antonio. The experience sparked Hilary's desire to be an actress. Both sisters along with their mother relocated to California to make it in the world of professional acting. However, their father stayed in Houston to manage his business. Hilary's initial years were full of struggle. She auditioned for numerous roles and landed a few appearances in commercials. It wasn't till the age of 10 that she landed her first real role when she appeared in the made-for-TV movie True Women. Though it was an uncredited role, it gave god exposure to Hillary. She next served as an extra in another uncredited role in Willard Carroll's ensemble comedy drama Playing by Heart (1998). In 1998, Hilary landed her first major role when she played the lead role in the movie Casper Meets Wendy. However, the film was released direct-to-video and did not find much favor with the critics. In 1999, Hilary played a supporting role in the television film The Soul Collector. Her performance was noted, and she won the Young Artist Award for "Best Performance in a TV Movie or Pilot (Supporting Young Actress)". Hilary came close to achieving recognition when she appeared in the pilot episode of the NBC sitcom Daddio (2000). However, before the show had aired, Hilary was dropped from its cast lineup. Dejected, Hilary almost gave up on her acting career. However, her manager and mother encouraged her to go on. Persistence paid and within a week Hilary landed the lead role in the family comedy show Lizzie McGuire (2001). The show, at its peak, boasted a viewer ship of 2.3 million viewers per episode. Hilary became immensely popular specifically among children between seven and fourteen. After Hilary completed 65 successful episodes of Lizzie McGuire, a feature film spin-off, The Lizzie McGuire Movie was released in 2003. The movie grossed over $40 million and was one of the year's most popular movies. Hilary's first role in a theatrical motion picture after Lizzie McGuire was in Human Nature (2002). She later starred in the Disney Channel television film Cadet Kelly (2002). The film became the network's most watched program in its nineteen-year history. In 2003, Hilary essayed her first major role in a feature film when she appeared in Agent Cody Banks. Later that year, Hilary appeared in her highest grossing film till date, Cheaper by the Dozen. She also appeared in the sequel, Cheaper by the Dozen 2 (2005). However, the sequel was not as successful. In 2004, Hilary starred in A Cinderella Story. The film was a moderate box office hit. While Hilary has done some good roles, she also has the dubious distinction of being nominated for Razzie Award nominations for "Worst Actress" for A Cinderella Story, The Perfect Man and Cheaper by the Dozen 2. In 2006, she appeared in the satirical comedy Material Girls. The film was Hilary's least commercially successful film to date. Besides acting, Hilary is also an accomplished singer. After recording tracks for television she released her first album Santa Claus Lane in 2002. The album was moderately successful and was certified gold. In 2003, Hilary released her second album Metamorphosis. It was one of the biggest selling albums of the year in the U.S. The lead track of the album, "So Yesterday", featured in the top ten lists in several countries. Hilary embarked on her first concert tour, the Metamorphosis Tour in 2003. This was followed by the Girl Can Rock and Still Most Wanted tours. Her third self-titled album, Hilary Duff, was released in September 2004 and debuted at number two in the U.S. and number one in Canada. Her fourth album, Most Wanted was released in 2005 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. Hilary launched her own fashion line, Stuff by Duff in 2004. Her designs are distributed through Target in the United States, Kmart in Australia, Zellers in Canada, and Edgars in South Africa. Hilary has accomplished much in her young age, but she has a long way to go. While her music career is doing well, she would surely be working on ensuring that her future acting performances are appreciated just as much.
