Biography
Devon Aoki is an American supermodel and actress of Japanese and German descent. She is best known for roles in the films 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003), Sin City (2005), and DOA: Dead or Alive (2006). Devon Edwenna Aoki was born on August 10, 1982 in New York City. Her father, Rocky Aoki is Japanese and a former Olympic wrestler. He is the owner of the Benihana steakhouse chain. Her mother, Pamela Hilburger is of English and German heritage and works as a Bavarian jewelry designer. Devon has a sister and a brother, Steve Aoki who is a well-known DJ in Los Angeles, California DJ, and is also the head of the Dim Mak record label.
Devon spent her life in different cities: born in New York, she grew up in California and went to high school in London. In her early teens, she moved back to New York. Apparently, she was discovered at the age of 13 when she gatecrashed at a rancid concert in New York. Her godmother also helped her start her career when she introduced her to Kate Moss.
When Devon was 14, her parents got divorced and she moved along with her mother and siblings to London. She next joined Storm Model Management in London. She then went on to model for leading designers like Chanel, Thierry Mugler, Balenciaga, Fendi, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Givenchy.
In 1998, Devon reached new heights of success as a model when she became the face of Versace replacing Naomi Campbell. She also landed a modeling contract with Lancome, following in the footsteps of stunning beauties like Mena Suvari, Elizabeth Jagger and Uma Thurman.
A film career was not far behind. In 2003, Devon made her film debut with the musical comedy Death of a Dynasty. The film was about the rap industry and was directed by rap mogul Damon Dash.
However it was with her role as Suki that year in the action flick 2 Fast 2 Furious that Devon made it big. She played the role of a speed-loving babe in the sequel to the hit film The Fast and the Furious but did not know how to drive. So she learnt driving for the role from a stunt driver.
Devon next played the role of Dominique in D.E.B.S. co-starring Jordana Brewster in 2004.
The next year, Devon was seen in the popular television series Sin City as Miho. She was so popular in the series that she went on to reprise her role in 2007's Sin City 2.
In 2006, Devon acted in the film Dead or Alive.
On the personal front, Devon was dating rocker Lenny Kravitz. However, since breaking up with him, she has kept her personal life highly personal.
