The film was directed by Sidney Scott in 1918 and was based on Burroughs' hugely popular novel of 1912. The film starred Elmo Lincolm as the adult Tarzan, Gordon Griffiths as the boy Tarzan, Enid Markey as Jane Porter, and Thomas Jefferson as Professor Porter.
