 | DYNASTY: Kissing Cousins (1) Following her evil husband Sean's death, Alexis (Joan Collins) heads to LA for a holiday with Dex (Michael Nader), the true love of her life. She asks Dex to help her undo the damage Sean did to her oil business "Colbyco." Meanwhile, Alexis' cousin Sable, who lives in Los Angeles, is curious about the reasons for Alexis' presence. NOTE: The storyline begins in the 9th season premiere of "Dynasty." After the show's sensational decline in the ratings, a former "Dallas" producer, David Paulsen took over from creators Richard and Esther Shapiro and creative consultants Eileen and Richard Pollock, to try to rejuvenate the fading soap. Given the show's budgeting problems (because of inflated actors' salaries and its overall high price tag), Paulsen decided to cut Joan Collins' appearances to only 13 out of 22 episodes. Since Linda Evans wanted to leave the series, he wrote her out after the 8th episode (she appeared in 6). With Linda leaving the show, a decision was made to rehire "Colbys" star Stephanie Beacham, whose character Sable Colby was Alexis' cousin. Thus, Paulsen saved money and brought in fresh blood to battle Collins' vixen. Although the overall quality of writing improved in the 9th season, not many viewers were there to see it. The show slid to series' lows and was cancelled by the end of the 1988/89 season. |
