Gerade noch haben sich Gerry (Gerard Butler) und seine Frau Holly (Hilary Swank) gestritten: über ihre Beziehung, den Kinderwunsch, die Perspektiven des gemeinsamen Glücks - und sich anschließend ebenso leidenschaftlich wieder versöhnt. Doch wenige Monate später ist alles vorbei. Gerry ist tot, und Holly weiß nicht, wie sie allein weiterleben soll. Ungewöhnlich beginnt diese Geschichte über die ganz große Liebe nach dem Weltbestseller "PS Ich liebe Dich" von Cecilia Ahern. Wie das Buch kreist auch die Verfilmung um den tragischen Verlust, der aber nicht das Ende der Liebe bedeutet. Briefe aus dem Jenseits Nach Gerrys Tod gibt sich Holly zunächst ihrer Trauer hin und isoliert sich völlig von ihren besten Freundinnen (Gina Gershon, Lisa Kudrow). Bis sie eines Tages einen Brief bekommt, mit Gerrys Handschrift. Es ist der erste einer ganzen Reihe von Briefen, die er vor seinem Tod geschrieben hat und die Holly in den nächsten Monaten auf unterschiedlichen Wegen erhalten wird. In jedem Brief stellt er ihr eine Aufgabe, die sie bewältigen muss. So beginnt für Holly ein Jahr voller Abenteuer, jedes von ihnen detailliert geplant und unterschrieben mit den Worten "PS Ich liebe Dich!".
