Dirty Three Doco - Touring America in Underpants
The Dirty Three are the rough and ready jewels in the crown of Australian rock and roll history. Spawned from the intensely collaborative local Australian music scene in the 80's and early 90's, the Dirty Three pioneered the instrumental rock and roll music scene in Australia with their cathartic, sometimes violent and always spellbinding brand of music. Within a few short years, they achieved local and international success and left Australian shores to take their music to the world. To this day the band continues to tour the world and serve music that they see as a real, living and breathing thing that chooses the Dirty Three's custodianship.Director Darcy Maine's documentary chases the bands history through extensive archival footage and interviews with international luminaries.Nick Cave, Steve Albini, Ed Kuepper, Bobby Gillespie, Mick Harvey, Catpower, Alexandre Pierrepont, Noah Taylor, Will Oldham and many more jump at the chance to tell their personal Dirty Three stories."When you're falling in love or falling out of love, their music is particularly appropriate. You can enjoy them at the best and worst of times." - actor Noah Taylor"They're utterly unique and absolutely world class." - Nick Cave, The Bad Seeds, Grinderman"Every time I see the Dirty Three, they make me cry." - Chan Marshall, Catpower"Like a cross between Pagannini and Jimmy Page." - Bobby Gillespie, Primal ScreamThe live concert on this DVD is also a testament to the band's reach. Taiyo Films took some of Australia's finest Music Video Directors to Tokyo, Japan, to film the Dirty Three playing live in Shibuya at the O-Nest venue. Collaborating with Tokyo based sound technician Satoru Fujii, a very special night in the history of the band was recorded for prosperity. The Australian music video directors were also briefed to capture images of everyday life on the streets of Tokyo which has been used to great effect. The concert sound post produced by Casey Rice and Mick Turner. The Dirty Three who have held fast to their primary objective through think and thin, that being to server music in the best way they can and not try to control it.Director Darcy Maine. Max: Nietzsche's Eyes (Noah Taylor, John Cusack)
'Max' was panned by the critics before it came out for simply daring to portray Hitler as a person, but after it did come out, most of them did an about turn and praised it. It's about ideas rather than being a 100% accurate historical chronicle, and it's about showing that situations - and, even more so, people - are seldom black and white, but more often shades of grey. I love this strange, thought-provoking little movie. More people should watch it.Cast: Noah Taylor, John Cusack, Molly Parker, Ulrich Thomsen, Leelee SobieskiMusic: Paula Cole - Nietzsche's EyesFriedrich Nietzsche was not, in fact, an anti-Semite, and had severely criticized people - including his sister Elisabeth - for misinterpreting his writing. The premise of this video is a man slowly becoming disillusioned with the doctrine he had admired as he realizes that it, contrary to his earlier beliefs, does not tell him what he wants to hear. Frustrated by both his own shortcomings and the state of affairs around him, and searching for someone to blame, he begins to contemplate taking matters into his own hands, and, thus, both his art and his direction begin to subtly change. 'Nietzsche... failed in flight': his former disciple fails to develop the true spark of potential in himself and turns away from it to the most base elements of his nature.Better quality version also at:http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0WDHZUBA
