 | Rembrandt - Música: Johann Sebastian Bach Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (Leiden 1606 - Amsterdam - 1669) Artista holandés del barroco, uno de los más grandes pintores de la historia del arte occidental, fue un intérprete excepcional de la naturaleza humana y un maestro de la técnica, no sólo pictórica sino también del dibujo y del grabado. Su obra produjo un gran impacto en sus contemporáneos e influyó en el estilo de muchos artistas posteriores. Es probable que no exista ningún pintor que haya igualado a Rembrandt en su utilización de los efectos del claroscuro o en el empaste vigoroso. Nacido en el seno de una acomodada familia de molineros, Rembrandt recibió una esmerada educación y llegó a ingresar en la Universidad de Leiden, donde estudió un curso, ya que por entonces decidió dedicarse a la pintura. De los dos maestros que tuvo, uno en Leiden y otro en Amsterdam, fue este último el que más influyó en el artista y el que le transmitió las tendencias italianizantes en boga. De hecho, sus primeras creaciones (como la Lapidación de san Esteban) manifiestan una evidente influencia del estilo de Pieter Lastman. En 1625, considerándose ya formado, abrió taller en Leiden junto con Jan Lievens (quien después siguió una trayectoria muy distinta), y no tardó en contar con una amplia clientela. His paintings are characterized by luxuriant brushwork, rich colour, and a mastery of chiaroscuro. Numerous portraits and self-portraits exhibit a profound penetration of character. His drawings constitute a vivid record of contemporary Amsterdam life. The greatest artist of the Dutch school, he was a master of light and shadow whose paintings, drawings, and etchings made him a giant in the history of art. |
 | Rembrandt, la soledad del genio www.artehistoria.com Admirado siempre como el más genial de los artistas holandeses, Rembrandt, pintor, grabador y dibujante excepcional, no puede sin embargo ser considerado la quintaesencia de la pintura holandesa del siglo XVII ya que la sublimidad de su genio y las cualidades de su obra trascienden a Holanda. Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn nace en Leiden el 15 de julio de 1606. Era hijo de un molinero perteneciente a la clase media holandesa, por lo que pudo asistir a la Escuela Latina y en 1620 matricularse en la Universidad de Leiden, aunque desconocemos en qué materias. En 1621 abandona los estudios universitarios e inicia su aprendizaje artístico en su ciudad natal con un oscuro pintor llamado Jacob van Swanenburgh, en cuyo taller estuvo tres años. Entre 1624 y 1625 continuó su aprendizaje en Amsterdam, esta vez en el taller de un pintor de mayor relieve, Pieter Lastman, de quien toma la influencia de Caravaggio y Elsheimer. Posiblemente también frecuentaba otro taller, el de Jacob Pynas, de estilo italianizante. En 1625 le encontramos de nuevo en Leiden, donde abre taller con Jan Lievens a quien había conocido en el estudio de Lastman. De estos años es su primera obra conocida, la Lapidación de San Esteban, en donde se aprecia claramente la influencia caravaggista. En 1628 su fama es ya considerable y tiene discípulos a su cargo, destacando Gerrit Dou.
