Delacroix's use of expressive brushstrokes and his study of the optical effects of colour profoundly shaped the work of the Impressionists, while his passion for the exotic inspired the artists of the Symbolist movement. A fine lithographer, Delacroix illustrated various works of William Shakespeare, the Scottish writer Walter Scott and the German writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. In contrast to the Neoclassical perfectionism of his chief rival Ingres, Delacroix took for his inspiration the art of Rubens and painters of the Venetian Renaissance, with an attendant emphasis on colour and movement rather than clarity of outline and carefully modeled form. Dramatic and romantic content characterized the central themes of his maturity, and led him not to the classical models of Greek and Roman art, but to travel in North Africa, in search of the exotic. Friend and spiritual heir to Théodore Géricault, Delacroix was also inspired by Lord Byron, with whom he shared a strong identification with the "forces of the sublime", of nature in often violent action.  | MIGUEL BOSE' IN "Mazeppa" -1993 Un circo di passioni equestri per il pittore Miguel Bose' . Bartabas non sappiamo come si chiama in realta' , non sappiamo dov' e' nato. Nel suo film d' esordio, "Mazeppa", non abbiamo neppure il bene di vederlo in faccia: coperto da una maschera di cuoio, il patron dello spettacolo equestre "Zingaro" incarna una figura circense del primo Ottocento, il celebre Franconi animatore del Cirque Olympique. Di fronte a lui c' e' un Miguel Bose' bello e spericolato nella parte del pittore Theodore Gericault, morto a trent' anni cadendo da cavallo: ed era uno che i cavalli li amava molto e li dipingeva in continuazione. Percio' qui si inventa, ai margini delle geometriche zingarate dei cavallerizzi, un rapporto di fascinazione fra Ge' ricault e Franconi, terminato nell' impazienza, nel dissidio e nel sangue. La kermesse si concluse sull' incubo del pittore, che immagina di trasformarsi nel mitico personaggio del paggio Mazeppa: colui che per scontare un fallo amoroso fu legato nudo al dorso di un cavallo e spedito al galoppo a morire nella steppa. Un personaggio che attrasse molti scrittori, tra i quali Puskin, e fu ritratto in un quadro dallo stesso Gericault. |

 | Delacroix La Morte di Sardanapalo La morte di Sardanapalo è un dipinto di Eugène Delacroix, ad olio su tela (395 x 425 cm), quest'opera fu realizzata nel 1827. Oggi l'opera è conservato al Musée du Louvre di Parigi. L'opera suscitò grande scalpore all'epoca: i toni sono infatti notevolmente romantici e vi è la commistione di vari temi - la lussuria e la morte - la ricchezza - gusto per l'esotico I colori sono dati a corpo (colori poco diluiti e pastosi). Non è presente alcun tipo di prospettiva, l'accelerazione è voluta e cercata dal colore. Molto ben resi sono i rossi e gli ori. Della scena Delacroix sottolinea la crudeltà e la passionalità. Ferdinand Victor Eugène Delacroix (Saint-Maurice, 26 aprile 1798 Parigi, 13 agosto 1863) è stato un artista e pittore francese, considerato fin dall'inizio della sua carriera il principale esponente del movimento romantico del suo paese . La suggestiva pennellata tipica di Delacroix e il suo studio sugli effetti ottici ottenibili per mezzo del colore influenzarono profondamente l'opera degli impressionisti, mentre la sua passione per i temi esotici fu fonte di ispirazione per gli artisti del movimento simbolista. Abile litografo, Delacroix realizzò illustrazioni per diverse opere di Shakespeare, Sir Walter Scott e Goethe.  | EUGENE DELACROIX,DEDICADO A MI HIJO MARIO Biografía: Pintor francés cuya obra constituye un gran exponente del romanticismo del siglo XIX y cuya influencia se extendió hasta los impresionistas. Delacroix nació el 26 de abril de 1798 en Charenton-Saint Maurice, y fue discípulo del pintor francés Pierre Guérin. Recibió una formación neoclásica dentro de la escuela del pintor francés Jacques-Louis David, pero su estilo se vio influenciado por el rico colorido y la opulencia de maestros anteriores, como Petrus Paulus Rubens y Pablo Veronés. También absorbió el espíritu de su contemporáneo Théodore Géricault, cuyas primeras obras representan la acción violenta, el amor a la libertad y el romanticismo en ciernes del turbulento periodo postnapoleónico. La carrera artística de Delacroix empezó en 1822 cuando su primer cuadro, Dante y Virgilio en los infiernos (1822, Louvre, París), fue aceptado en el Salón de París. En 1824 obtuvo un gran éxito popular con Las matanzas de Kíos (Louvre), que representa el tema heroico de la lucha de los griegos por la independencia.
