 | Boldini e La Belle Epoque GIOVANNI BOLDINI Giovanni Boldini (Ferrara 1842 Parigi 1931) Nato a Ferrara il 31 dicembre 1842 in Via Volta Paletto (lattuale Savonarola al n° 10), Giovanni Boldini (che in famiglia è chiamato Zanin) viene introdotto alla pittura dal padre Antonio, originario di Spoleto, pittore e restauratore specializzato in dipinti sacri e ritratti (gia allievo del Minardi a Roma), abile copista di cinquecentisti e di vedutisti veneziani. Nel 1858 inizia, con un autoritratto, quella serie fortunata di dipinti di signore e di personaggi, che non abbandonerà mai e che lo renderanno ricco e famoso nel mondo. Nel 1860, appena diciottenne, gode già di una certa fama a Ferrara e dintorni. Nel 1862, grazie ad una piccola eredità di uno zio sacerdote e su consiglio dal padre Antonio, Giovanni Boldini si trasferisce a Firenze per iscriversi allAccademia di Belle Arti, dove tengono cattedra Stefano Ussi ed Enrico Pollastrini, ma che non frequenterà a lungo, non condividendone, sembra, i rigidi metodi accademici. Durante il soggiorno in questa città, diverrà amico inseparabile di Michele Gordigiani e Cristiano Banti, che lo introduranno nel gruppo dei Macchiaioli (artisti che si ritrovano al Caffè Michelangelo, tra i quali: Fattori, Martelli, Signorini, Cabianca, Borrani, tutti esponenti di rilievo del movimento).  | Frans Hals (golden age painter) Frans Hals 1582- 1666) Frans Hals wordt gerekend tot de oude Hollandse meesters en geldt als één van de belangrijkste onder hen. Zijn wereldwijde faam dankt hij vooral aan de levendige en kleurrijke schuttersstukken in het Frans Hals museum, en aan de ook daar aanwezige groepsportretten van regenten en regentessen. Verder geniet hij bekendheid door zijn sprekende portretten van volksfiguren, kinderen en allerlei andere tijdgenoten. Zijn portret is in 1968 als afbeelding op het Nederlandse bankbiljet van 10 gulden geplaatst. Veel van zijn werken zijn verdwenen, naar schatting worden er tussen de 145 en 222 schilderijen aan hem toegeschreven (Seymour Slive / Claus Grimm) Frans Hals also produced genre paintings of drunkards, gypsies and woman at work.  | GIOVANNI BOLDINI Ferrara 1.842 - París 1.931. Es el octavo de 13 hijos de Antonio e Benvenuta Caleffi. Antonio Boldini, nativo de Spoleto, era pintor de matriz purista, alumno de Tommaso Minardi (1787 - 1871), y restaurador; se dice que, dotado de notable técnica, hacía buenas copias de obras de Raffaello y de paisajistas venecianos; de su padre, Zanin recibe, muy joven, las primeras enseñanzas de dibujo. En Ferrara frecuenta desde 1858 los cursos de pintura de Girolamo Domenichini (1813 -- 1891), que con el padre Gaetano fue autor de los afrescos académicos en el Teatro local, y de Giovanni Pagliarini (1809 -- 1878), que se dictaban en el Palacio de los Diamantes, y naturalmente tiene la oportunidad de conocer bien a los grandes pintores ferrarenses del "Cuatrocento", además de Dosso Dossi y el Parmigianino. En 1862 se inscribe en la Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze, alumno de Stefano Ussi (1822 - 1901) y de Enrico Pollastrini (1817 - 1876). Frecuenta el conocido lugar de encuentro de los artistas florentinos, el Caffè Michelangiolo, donde conoce Giovanni Fattori, Odoardo Borrani, Telemaco Signorini, Cristiano Banti, del cual es huésped en sus villas de Montorsoli y de Montemurlo, y Michele Gordigiani (1830 - 1909) y ya manifiesta su interés, que no abandonará jamás por los salones elegantes de la aristocracia y de la burguesía: frecuentemente es huésped de los Falconer, decora con témpera, en seco, entre el 1867 y el 1870, las paredes de una salita de su villa en Pistoia, "La Falconiera": La villa será comprada ... |
 | McEwan's Lager (beer) Classic UK ad from 1989 McEwan's is a range of beer brewed at the Caledonian Brewery in Edinburgh, Scotland. The brand is now owned by Heineken International. Its logo depicts a character from a Frans Hals painting known popularly as The Laughing Cavalier enjoying the beer. William McEwan opened the Fountain Brewery in 1856, in the Fountainbridge area of Edinburgh. By the time it became in public company in 1889, the brewery was valued at £1 million. At the beginning of the 1900s, the brewery had a large share of the market throughout Scotland and north-east England, and was exporting to Australia, New Zealand, India and South Africa. McEwan's merged with William Younger's Brewery (founded in Edinburgh in 1749) in 1931, becoming Scottish Brewers. The company merged again in 1960, joining with Newcastle Breweries to form Scottish & Newcastle. In February 2004 Scottish & Newcastle announced the closure of McEwan's Brewery, at the same time as partially buying Caledonian Brewery in Slateford, Edinburgh. McEwan's brewery finally closed in June 2005, with production of the McEwan's keg beers being transferred to Caledonian and cans of Mcewans export now being brewed in England at Dunston brewery.
