LEONARDO DA VINCI

The charming village of Vicchio will welcome masterpieces such as the stunning portrait of St. Stephen painted in layers of pounded gold by Giotto. The painting has become an emblem of the entire project. In the same small town you can visit Mother and Child with the Saints by Beato Angelico, famous for his visions of the annunciation, of heavenly creatures and the holy family. Andrea del Castagno is represented by a few of his Illustrious People portraits: Dante, Bocaccio, and the famous warrior known as Pippo Spano. The artist himself was a picaresque figure?Giorgio Vasari even accused him of murdering a fellow painter, although we can safely acquit him based on an air-tight alibi?at the time of the supposed murder Andrea del Castagno had been dead for four years.
