This film, which was the first one Wayne produced as well as starred in, was a radical departure for this genre at the time it was released. The film was directed by Wayne's frequent screenwriter James Edward Grant. The notorious shootist and womanizer Quirt Evans' (John Wayne) horse collapses as he passes a Quaker family's home. Quirt has been wounded and the kindly family takes him in and nurses him back to health against the advice of others. The handsome Evans quickly attracts the affections of their beautiful but sheltered daughter, Penelope (Gail Russell). He develops an affection for the family but his troubled past follows him there, both outlaws and the law. Evans falls for Penelope and begins to assimilate her pacifist lifestyle. However, the tug of his old ways is very strong and so he vacillates back and forth. He is finally forced to examine his character after his violent actions bring harm to an innocent person. This movie is the point of departure for two other successful "fish out of water" movies, the 1985 Witness starring Harrison Ford and the 2003 The Outsider starring Tim Daly and Naomi Watts, both of which have a similar story line. Cast: John Wayne - Quirt Evans Gail Russell - Penelope Worth Harry Carey - McClintock Bruce Cabot ... | | Man in the Attic: Starring Jack Palance, Constance Smith and Byron Palmer (1953 Movie) DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchived.blogspot.com Man in the Attic is a 1953 mystery film directed by Hugo Fregonese. January 17, 1987, Buenos Aires, Argentina) was an Argentine film director who worked both in Hollywood and in Argentina. A former sports journalist, he attended Columbia University in 1935, then was hired to be a technical advisor for films with Latin American themes. By 1938, he was again living in Argentina. Most of Fregonese's American films were westerns and crime melodramas, for example Man in the Attic (1953) and Black ... | | Toronto - Your Daddy Don't Know Issued in Canada June 1982 on Solid Gold 719. Originally from North Carolina, vocalist Anne Elizabeth Woods sang with San Francisco group Sass before leaving for Toronto in the mid-1970s. While in the band Gambler, she met guitarist Brian Allen of Rose, and appeared on one of their records in 1977 as Annie Woods. By 1978, Annie had changed her professional name to Holly Woods. That year, she joined with Allen, his ex-Rose bandmate drummer Jimmy Fox, keyboardist Scott Kreyer and bassist Nick Costello. All were from New York, and had played with Woods at various times. With the addition of guitarist Sheron Alton (Allen's girlfriend and later wife), they formed a group which they had intended to call Sass, after Woods' former group. But just before they went onstage at a gig, the bar manager changed their name to Toronto, and introduced them as such. Chilliwack's Brian MacLeod saw them, and recommended them to Steve Propas, manager of Chilliwack and Headpins, who also owned the Solid Gold label. They were signed in 1979. MacLeod and Bill Henderson produced Toronto's 1980 debut album, "Lookin' For Trouble," which spawned three singles and went platinum. They toured Canada through 1981, when they went to Le Studio in Morin Heights, Quebec (where Rush made most of their albums) to make "Head On," which also had three singles and went platinum. It was produced by Terry Brown (Rush, Klaatu, Max Webster). Toronto toured Canada again, and made inroads into the US in 1981. It stars Walter Huston as Lincoln and Una Merkel, in her first talking role, as Ann Rutledge. The script was co-written by Stephen Vincent Benét, author of the Civil War prose poem John Brown's Body. This was the first of only two sound films made by Griffith. The film was not a hit at the time, but in recent years it has come to be regarded as one of the definitive films on Lincoln. The first act of the film covers Lincoln's early life as a storekeeper and rail-splitter in New Salem and his early romance with Ann Rutledge, and his early years as a lawyer and his courtship and marriage to Mary Todd in Springfield. The majority of the film deals with Lincoln's presidency during the Civil War and culminates with Lee's surrender and Lincoln's assassination at Ford's Theater. The film covers some little known aspects of Lincoln's early life, such as his romance with Ann Rutledge, his depression and feared suicidal tendencies after her death, and his unexplained breaking off of his engagement with Mary Todd (although the film surmises that this was due to unresolved feelings over Ann Rutledge and adds a dramatic scene where Lincoln stands Mary up on their scheduled wedding day, which never happened). While the early scenes of Lincoln's life are remarkably accurate ... | | JourneyQuest - Episode 2: Sod the Quest A devious riddle divides the party...
