 | Obsession (D.H. Lawrence) - Calvin Klein David Lynch Commercial | | DH Lawrence The Rainbow 1: Ghosts From the BBC TV adaptation of DH Lawrence's "The Rainbow" (1988), starring the exquisite Imogen Stubbs. (The Ken Russell version was not really well received and does not capture the work like this beautiful BBC adaptation does.) These are beginning scenes from Episode 1, "Ghosts". Note: A couple of key segments are missing, such as a church scene and the remainder of the scene in which Ursula Brangwen meets Anton Skrebensky. Most of the sequencing is preserved, however. Please pardon sound quality. This was videotaped many years ago. I do not have a DVD copy or VHS copy of "The Rainbow" in its entirety, just a collection of most of the scenes--perhaps 90%. I will post what I can. In the meantime, if anyone out there knows where we can find this excellent series in its entirety on DVD, please feel free to post the info for us. Some of us Youtubers are interested. Cheers. Enjoy. Ursula is a force of nature: fiercely sensitive, courageous and tender. Imogen Stubbs offers a profoundly moving performance...Quote from this segment: "It matters whether you have courage or not." (Ursula Brangwen)First of nine postings of Rainbow highlights. | | DH Lawrence The Rainbow 4: The Widening Circle The fourth set of highlights from the excellent TV adaptation of "The Rainbow" (BBC, 1988) comprises more segments from episode 2, "The Widening Circle", leading to that episode's conclusion. Not the complete episode in sequence, but most of it: I offer here the footage I do have of it spliced together. The sequencing is preserved. Starring the exquisite Imogen Stubbs, this beautiful adaptation of "The Rainbow" captures the spirit of the novel very well, some say much better than does the Ken Russell version, a film that was not really well received and which was released at around the same time. (But to each his own.) Please pardon sound quality. This was videotaped many years ago. I do not have a DVD copy or VHS copy of "The Rainbow" in its entirety, just a collection of most of the scenes--perhaps 90%. I will post what I can. In the meantime, if anyone out there knows where we can find this excellent series in its entirety on DVD, please feel free to post the purchasing info for us. Some of us Youtubers are interested. Some of us have looked far and wide. Cheers. Enjoy. Ursula is a force of nature: fiercely sensitive, courageous and tender. Imogen Stubbs offers a profoundly moving performance...Quote from this segment: "I knew if I was to be strong, I had to remake myself." (Ursula Brangwen)More highlights to follow. Nine highlights segments total. | | D.H. Lawrence - The Rainbow: "Tame people are spiteful..." The exquisite Imogen Stubbs is the screen's best Ursula Brangwen, heroine of D.H. Lawrence's novel of self-transformation, "The Rainbow". This scene, in which Ursula and her sister Gudrun discuss love, pain and wildness, shows the fierce sensitivity Imogen brought to this fine 1988 BBC production. | | DH Lawrence The Rainbow 7: The Darkness of Paradise (Note 5-9 have lower quality sound.) More scenes from "The Darkness of Paradise", episode 3 of the TV adaptation of "The Rainbow" (BBC 1988), which I have in its entirety here but unfortunately with lower quality audio. Pardon. I am posting it due to interest and request.I am still very interested in finding this series on DVD for purchase but could not find it anywhere, including BBC Worldwide. If anyone knows how to obtain it, please let us know, thanks.Ursula is a fragile and fierce force of nature, especially in this final episode of "The Rainbow", in which Anton returns to her life for a more adult version of their romance and she confronts her need for personal growth.Quote from this segment: "I care all the world." (Anton Skrebensky) | | Sons & Lovers "Memories" Acclaimed British actress Sarah Lancashire (Coronation Street) stars in this powerful adaptation of the classic D.H. His collected works represent an extended reflection upon the dehumanizing effects of modernity and industrialization. In them, Lawrence confronts issues relating to emotional health and vitality, spontaneity, human sexuality and instinct.Lawrence's opinions earned him many enemies and he endured official persecution, censorship, and misrepresentation of his creative work throughout the second half of his life, much of which he spent in a voluntary exile he called his "savage pilgrimage.Lawrence is perhaps best known for his novels Sons and Lovers, The Rainbow, Women in Love and Lady Chatterley's Lover. Within these Lawrence explores the possibilities for life and living within an Industrial setting. In particular Lawrence is concerned with the nature of relationships that can be had within such settings. The third published novel of D. H. Lawrence, taken by many to be his earliest masterpiece, tells the story of Paul Morel, a young man and a budding artist. Richard Aldington explains the semi-autobiographical nature of his masterpiece: 'When you have experienced Sons and Lovers you have lived through the agonies of the young Lawrence striving to win free from his old life'. Generally, it is not only considered as an evocative portrayal of working-class life in a mining community, but also an intense study of family, class and early sexual relationships. The original 1913 edition was heavily edited by Edward Garnett who removed eighty passages, roughly a tenth of the text. The novel is dedicated to Garnett. Garnett, as the literary advisor to the publishing firm Duckworth, was an important figure in leading Lawrence further into the London literary world during the years 1911 and 1912. It was not until the 1992 Cambridge University Press edition was released that the missing text was restored. Please see our website for detail on this and other Classic Audio Bookscopyright CSA Word Audio Books London UK all rights reserved .Video demonstration created by Robert Nichol AudioProductions RNaudioproductions New Media | | Erik Enocksson @ BERG 211 Together with IDIOT KID and the CARL JOHANKYRKANS VOKALENSEMBLE at BERG 211, Göteborg, Sweden on 25th of May, 2007.
