Movie Legends - Jeanne Crain
Tribute to the accomplished Hollywood Actress.
"MARGIE" (1946)
"Margie" is a great 'lost' 1946 romantic comedy. Though filmed in Technicolor, it has yet to be released on DVD.Jeanne Crain plays Margie McDuff, a teenage girl in 1928, who has a 'nut' for a grandmother, an undertaker for a father, a crush on her high school French teacher, and a pair of bloomers that find the most inconvenient times to slip down around her ankles. Somehow, it all works together, creating one of the most endearing slices of American life to ever emerge on the silver screen.NOTE: Look for a teenaged Conrad Janis (Mindy's dad on "Mork & Mindy") as Johnny and Alan Young (Wilbur from TV's "Mr.Ed") as Roy.
Stump The Stars
Hans Conried joins the regulars on this show. Jeanne Crain and Ed Begley guest star.
Frank Sinatra IS Joe E. Lewis in "The Joker Is Wild"
Singer/actor Frank Sinatra is dramatic dynamite as the star of Paramount's "The Joker Is Wild" (1957). Based on the life of comedian Joe E. Lewis (1902-1971), the movie is ornamented with terrific songs (including the Academy-Award-winning "All the Way") and beauty (Mitzi Gaynor and Jeanne Crain). It is also peppered with plenty of night-club patter (including Lewis's signature toast "Post time!").Sinatra exudes confidence as Lewis: not only could he relate familiarly to the film's late-night-entertainment settings and action, he could also flex his actor's muscles to meet a variety of challenging dramatic demands?none more harrowing than Lewis's agony in the wake of a mob attack. The role was hardly a walk in the park.Although Sinatra's Lewis was a prey to self-destructive behavior, screenwriter Oscar Saul stitched a silver thread of life-affirmation into the character?and, to me, that "grace note" truly makes this a winning film. "The Joker Is Wild" also features prominently Eddie Albert, Beverly Garland, and Jackie Coogan. This YouTube video unrolls choice red-carpet clips of Sinatra as Lewis. Enjoy! Comments or questions are welcome; however, lewd or derogatory remarks are going to suffer a mob hit.If it hasn't occurred by the time you read this: would you like to see "The Joker Is Wild" restored and released to its original VistaVision glory on DVD? Margie (1946) Tribute
This is a tribute to the 1946 rare 20th Century Fox, Jeanne Crain Classic "Margie". This has always been one of my favorite films.Plot Synopsis:Nostalgic and sweet, this tuneful comedy centers on a mother's reminiscence of her wild time as a 1920s teenage flapper. Margie is first seen fully grown telling her stories to her own teenage daughter. Back then, Margie was a typical adolescent, crazy about boys (especially those in raccoon coats) and an expert on the day's fashions. Margie was quite the cat's meow back then and found herself pursued by a handsome young man. Unfortuantely for him, Margie and the other girls only have eyes for the dashing new French teacher. Though busy vying for the teacher's affections, the teens still have time to perform many of the 1920's most popular songs.BACKGROUND MUSIC:Doris Day singing the song "Them Were The Good Old Days. From the soundtrack album for her 1972 tv special The Doris Day Perry Como Special.

DEBRA PAGET Meets "The Japanese Sandman"
Hit the beach, have some barbecue, and dig this song-and-dance by Debra and Hoagy Carmichael. Anchored by a clip of Debra flirting, singing and dancing with uke-strumming Hoagy Carmichael (1899-1981)?the noted jazz musician and songwriter?this video also features a few other Paget appearances in the fun Fox film "Belles on Their Toes" (1952). A sequel to 1950's "Cheaper by the Dozen," the film follows once again the fortunes of the large Gilbreth family in Montclair, New Jersey. Widowed Gilbreth matriarch Lillian [matronly Myrna Loy?light years removed from her sparkling Nora Charles in the "Thin Man" films as well as earlier exotic roles like Fah Lo See in "The Mask of Fu Manchu" (1932)] presides over a brood of charismatic kids, some of whom are young adults like Ann (Jeanne Crain, reprising her "Dozen" role), Ernestine [pretty Barbara Bates, also onboard for the sequel and perhaps best remembered for her previous appearance as Phoebe in "All About Eve" (1950)], and Martha (rose-buddy Debra Paget). Also appearing are Jeffrey Hunter and Edward Arnold. The mood is predominantly light, nostalgic, and very "Booth Tarkington." [cf. Doris Day's "On Moonlight Bay" (1951)]. The few film clips featured in this one-shot video can now be enjoyed on DVD?complete and in the full context of the original motion picture in which they appeared?by referring to the BELLES ON THEIR TOES DVD distributed by Fox Home Entertainment. Please do not hesitate to go directly to the source www.foxhome.com or www.foxstudioclassics.co.uk for your copies or more information! This YouTube video creatively gives the public a brief and winning sample of une belle femme sur ses orteils dans un film amusant. I hope it will lead to greater interest in, enthusiasm for, and possibly even greater rentals and sales of this movie. If a Fox rep, after viewing this video and reading this text, has any legitimate professional concerns about this upload, please send me a detailed private message and I shall respond promptly. Thank you. And I mean it.Side-note for the statistical: Debra Paget was Elvis Presley's first leading lady in films, co-starring with him in "Love Me Tender" (1956).Questions or comments are sincerely welcome. Lewd, derogatory, or irrational comments will be thumped over the head with a ukulele. Thanks a mil for viewing, folks. It's an "endless summer." Now go "catch a wave"!
Hot Rods to Hell (trailer)
(1967) a harrowing account of the harassment of a nice, All-American family by some animalistic teen-agers, murderously careering around in flashy cars. This is a well-intentioned, but lumpy little picture. Two postwar favorites, Dana Andrews and Jeanne Crain, act professionally as the agonized parents. Laurie Mock also does well as their sensitive daughter, drawn to the meanest of the young hoodlums, convincingly played by Paul Bertoya. (New York Times)
