 | where are you now by jimmy harnen with synch Harnen was born and raised in Pennsylvania in the small run-down, drug infested, disease ridden town of Plymouth. In high school he played drums in the marching band. In 1985, he became the drummer for local band Synch, made up of lead vocalist Lou Butwin, guitarist Dave Abraham, bassist James A. Donnelly, and keyboardist Chuck Yarmey. That year, the band recorded some of their songs, with Harnen singing on one song, "Where Are You Now?". He had written the song with a friend named Rich Congdon, and the band decided to release it as a single on the independent label, Micki Records. It was backed by "End The Game," which featured Butwin on vocals. After receiving local airplay in the Wilkes-Barre market, Synch got signed to Columbia Records, and "Where Are You Now" was re-recorded at The Warehouse in Philadelphia with former Dakota members Bill Kelly and Jerry Hludzik producing. The band would release the album Get the Feelin' in 1986 [1], and "Where Are You Now" reached #77 on Billboard's Hot 100, but fell off the chart the following week. Synch was soon dropped from Columbia. They spent the next few years trying to recapture the spotlight, before disbanding, at which point Jimmy finally got his hair cut. In 1989, the song resurfaced and began receiving a tremendous amount of airplay, with the song now credited as "Jimmy Harnen with Synch." Cronin passed away on September 8, 2010, after a long battle with leukemia. Cronin is responsible for writing LFO's smash 1999 hit song, "Summer Girls." According to ETOnline, Cronin passed away after suffering a stroke in a Massachusetts hospital. Cronin was first diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia in 2005, three years after LFO's breakup. As he began treatment for the disease, Cronin established the Rich Cronin Hope Foundation. Melissa Holland, manager of the organization, confirmed that Cronin had died, saying the group "regretfully and sadly announces the passing of our founder and hero, Rich Cronin. Rich passed away today after a long battle against leukemia. I promise to continue our mission to one day WIN the good fight. Life will not be the same." Cronin went into remission in early 2006. His treatment included chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant. In 2009, Cronin joined his former band mates for an LFO summer reunion tour. ''Entertainment Weekly'' reports that LFO had "hoped to tour this December" and "possibly record another album. Several fellow musicians, including some of Cronin's former band mates posted condolence messages on Twitter and Facebook. LFO's Brad Fischetti had this to say via Twitter: "Thank you for all the kind messages. Devin [Lima] and I will miss our brother Rich. May he rest in peace with our Lord in Heaven.
