Der Junge, den sie mag, kommt auf sie zu. Doch statt ihre architektonischen Fähigkeiten zu würdigen, schubst er sie um und teilt ihr mit, dass sie wie Hundekacke riecht. Das Mädchen rennt heulend zu seiner Mutter. Die erklärt ihrer Tochter, um sie zu trösten, dass der Junge das ja nur gemacht habe, weil er sie in Wahrheit gerne hat. Damit ist der Grundstein allen Übels gelegt. Noch im Erwachsenenalter wird sich das Mädchen, wann immer ein Mann sie abweist, eine Ausrede einfallen lassen: Entweder ist er emotional zu unreif oder kommt mit ihrem beruflichen Erfolg nicht klar. Die naheliegendste Erklärung, die zudem auch noch in den meisten Fällen zutrifft, wird hingegen konsequent ausgeklammert: ?Er steht einfach nicht auf Dich. In seiner stargespickten Dramödie räumt Regisseur Ken Kwapis (Eine für 4, Lizenz zum Heiraten) mit lauter solchen Beziehungs-Irrtümern auf. Dabei führt er so manche klischeehafte Dating-Regel, etwa dass Frauen auf keinen Fall zuerst zurückrufen dürfen, gekonnt ad absurdum. Leider fällt sein Film dabei im letzten Akt seinem Entstehungsort Hollywood zum Opfer und wird so auf der Zielgeraden selbst noch zum - wenn auch kurzweiligen - Klischee.
