 | BUSH ORCHESTRA LEADER - DIRETTORE D'ORCHESTRA *WASHINGTON (27 aprile) -- Da ballerino a direttore d'orchestra senza tralasciare battute sui suoi aspiranti successori e sul suo futuro a fine mandato. Non si è fatto mancare nulla il presidente americano George Bush che ha diretto una marcetta durante l'annuale "cena delle beffe", il gala organizzato dai giornalisti dell'Associazione dei corrispondenti alla Casa Bianca, che per tradizione fin dagli anni Venti del secolo scorso è un'occasione per il presidente e la stampa per prendersi in giro a vicenda. La banda era quella del corpo dei Marines, la stessa che giorni fa si è esibita sul prato della Casa Bianca per celebrare il compleanno di Papa Benedetto XVI. Oltre a lanciarsi in battute sui John McCain, Hillary Clinton e Barack Obama, tutti assenti alla cena, Bush si è interrogato pubblicamente sul proprio futuro, visto che la fine del mandato si avvicina. Ricordando ai presenti il successo avuto da Al Gore dopo che ha lasciato la Casa Bianca, vincendo un Nobel e un Oscar (ma perdendo le elezioni contro Bush nel 2000), il presidente ha confessato ironicamente di non sentirsi all'altezza di fare altrettanto. Bush ha immaginato di poter, al massimo, scrivere un libro sull'ozio e la vita all'aria aperta. Il gala, come ogni anno, ha attirato una parata di stelle a Washington. "Smiling at me kind of devilishly," Falletta said.She gave him her baton and stepped aside.Gesturing exuberantly the president led the orchestra during part of its performance of "Stars and Stripes Forever."The music was played for Bush's exit after his speech at a ceremony commemorating the founding 400 years ago of Jamestown, America's first permanent English settlement.The musicians, made up of about 50 members of the Virginia Symphony as well several individuals from youth orchestras around the country, were impressed by how musical Bush was. "He was cueing the brass, he was cueing the percussion, he kept the tempo going," Falletta said. |
