 | TOP 10 BEST FILMS OF 2009 www.mannythemovieguy.com From big blockbusters to small independent films, they all earned a slot in my Top 10 Best Films of 2009 list. My requirements are simple did the film entertain? Provoke? Cajole? Will I remember the movie years from now? Im happy to report that the films that entertained, provoked, and cajoled me can all be found on my list. And yes, Ill remember these movies for years to come. 1. Up in the Air Writer-director Jason Reitman gives an emotionally satisfying film about a man trying to make a connection. Part social commentary about our economy and part dramedy about failed relationships, the film will make you run the whole gamut of emotions from funny, sad, and everything in between. Great script, direction, and ensemble cast (featuring George Clooney, Vera Farmiga, and Anna Kendrick) put Up in the Air on top of my list. 2. Precious Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire Director Lee Daniels creates an uplifting film that will push you down to the lower depths of despair before picking you up and dusting you off. Lovingly dedicated to all the Precious girls in the world, the film boasts a searing storyline and memorable performances by MoNique and Gabourey Sidibe. I cannot erase the indelible images of the movie from my head. 3. The Hurt Locker Considered the front-runner at the upcoming Academy Awards, this action-packed film about a bomb squad in Iraq makes a great argument about war as a drug.  | Super 8 | Official Movie Trailer | 2011 HD 2nd Trailer: www.youtube.com Paramount officially admitted the existence of "Super 8," a top secret JJ Abrams-directed, Steven Spielberg-produced sci-fi project, that conspiracy theorists on the Web have been gushing about for the last few days Variety reported. The first teaser trailer leaked on the Internet a few days ago is now being shown to the general public before "Iron Man 2," in theaters Friday. Abrams' plot is a mystery, although Variety quotes insiders as saying it's very influenced by the "Lost" co-creator's love of Spielberg's '70s sci-fi movies. Early speculation among bloggers was that the movie was a sequel to 2008's "Cloverfield," but Abrams has shot down those rumors, according to Deadline.com. The trailer hints at an alien presence, with the ominous an intro: "In 1979, the US Air Force closed a section of Area 51. All the materials were to be a transported to a secure facility in Ohio." Then there's a cut to a massive, breath-taking collision between a train and a pickup truck - and a close-up of an overturned Air Force container car with something patently not human smashing its way free. Fans are clamoring to get into movie theaters. "This sounds absolutely fantastic," wrote Harry Knowles on his site, Ain't It Cool News. "SHOW ME THE MOVIE NOW! LOVE IT! That's literally all I need to ever know about the movie. Right there. Enough. Show it. Now." |
