I Only Want To Be With You
Vonda Shepard (born July 7, 1963) is an American pop/rock singer. She appeared as a regular in the television show Ally McBeal from seasons 1-5 in which she played a resident performer at the bar where the show's characters drank after work. She plays piano, guitar, and bass. Vonda Shepard was born in New York but her family relocated to California when she was a child. She played piano from an early age. Her father is Richmond Shepard, a mime and improv actor. Vonda has three sisters: Armina, Rosetta (now Brianna) and Luana. After performing as a backing singer for many years she was eventually given her own recording contract. Shepard's first chart appearance was in 1987 when she recorded a duet with Dan Hill entitled "Can't We Try". Before this she tried out for the part of Michael J. Fox's sister in Light of Day but lost the part out to Joan Jett. She was also poised to sing on Peter Cetera's duet "The Next Time I Fall" but he picked Amy Grant instead. She released her first self-titled album in 1989 with little fanfare. The album did yield one chart single, "Don't Cry Ilene", a mid-tempo, piano-driven jazz-R&B flavored song dealing with the break-up of a relationship between a black woman and a white man, arising from adult peer pressure. The track is sung from the perspective of the woman's white female friend, who harbors a desire to have the man for herself, but keeps her distance out of respect for her friend. The song peaked at Number 17 on the Billboard Hot ...
The Remarkable Journey of Suzanne Joblonski
May 4, 2009 Interview with Suzanne Joblonski. By any account, second-year liberal arts major Suzanne Joblonski has faced daunting challenges. At 34, she has struggled with depression, been a victim of domestic abuse and survived the loss of a child. After enrolling in one, and then another CUNY college, her initial efforts to earn an Associate degree were thwarted by what was later?at BMCC?identified as a math-learning disability. I could have taken that diagnosis in either of two ways, she says. Woe is me or Well, that is me. She chose the latter. Actually, the diagnosis was a gift, since it confirmed why I was having difficulties with math. While holding down a job and raising a child with emotional challenges, Joblonski found the energy, time and determination to earn her Associate degree, mentor other students, engage in a full schedule of campus activities and, in her words, turn obstacles into opportunities. She will graduate this spring. An inauspicious beginning Joblonski is quick to note that her career at BMCC did not get off a promising start. Id been going through a difficult time and had trouble focusing on my studies, she says. Eventually, I dropped out. But she returned that summer?2006?to attend a Womens Leadership Retreat, organized by BMCCs Womens Resource Center. There I met Deborah Parker, who has since become a treasured mentor and ally, she says. She suggested that I contact the colleges Office of Services to Students with Disabilities. The office ...
D. Lorandos, Ph.D., JD - Is Parental Alienation Syndrome - Scientific? - Part 5
www.PASattorney.com D. Lorandos, Ph.D., JD - Is Parental Alienation Syndrome - Scientific? - Part 5 from the Canadian National Symposium on Parental Alienation - 2009 - Error rates can be described for Parental Alienation Syndrome diagnosis. Error rates for personality tests can be used to establish the likelihood of PAS, our available error rate of estimations lend themselves readily to rater classification systems, so we could certainly apply an error rate analysis to our predictions or determinations that PAS exist. Or that a particular test gives us information about PAS. Ok, what about peer review? Well, if we look at scores and scores and scores of published work in the scientific journals on PAS, or we look at the states in America with the Frye test, PAS admissible, or states in America under the Daubert Test, PAS admissible, or provinces in Canada under the Mohan test, PAS admissible. We can certainly say its met peer review. Series of editors, judges, scientific editors, publication of the work, it doesnt mean that it isnt controversial and were not still trying to move the database forward, but certainly concepts of Parental Alienation have met the criterion of peer review. Its been peer reviewed if you look at the work of Dr. Warshak and his statements about PAS, he points to scores and scores and scores of peer review processes about PAS. Ok, error rate, falsification, peer review, yep, met those, general acceptance. Well, we just said that the Mohan test in ...

Need For Prison Needle Exchange - ABC TV
ABC TV news program discusses the need for needle exchange programs in Australian prisons and the potential for a trial beginning in Canberra's Alaxander Maconochie prison. It's probable an HIV epidemic beginning in injecting drug users, and placing the wider Australian community at risk, would begin in Australian prisons. Questions are also raised as to the "shameful" state of Australia's Harm Reduction initiatives that have fallen behind what is considered effective evidence based practice for prison population health. This is further evidenced by successful programs in other countries around the world. Needle Syringe Programs are strongly supported by a large evidence base, which is mirrored by well over 1000 community programs across Australia. Indeed studies show that "investments in needle and syringe programs were yielding a twenty seven fold return in health, productivity and other gains." And: "What is striking is the level of public support for the program. The largest regular survey on drug use issues we have, the National Household Survey on Drugs, now records public opposition to the program at less than 20%. The Hawke, Keating, Howard and now Rudd Governments, as well as a myriad of state and territory governments of varying hues over the past 20 years have all lent their support to the program. For some this was in the face of strident opposition. A truly admirable achievement based on evidence, common sense and humanitarian grounds." www.ancd.org.au A WHO ...
