Way to go, Mickey! | | Something Weird The Wild Wild World of Jayne Mansfield Look out world, it's Jayne's planet and she's on the prowl in The Wild Wild World of Jayne Mansfield, a mondo-style celebration of all things Mansfield and, hands down, The Single Most Inane (and Insane) Documentary Ever Made! With footage of Jayne shot circa 1964, augmented with her bare-breasted nude scenes from Promises, Promises, padded out with such hilariously faked non-Jayne footage as goofy gays on the streets of Paris and the L.A. "topless craze!" and capped off with a ghoulish ending so colossally wrong that it can still make audiences gasp, this combination travelogue / cinematic acid trip is so loony tunes that it's practically legendary. "Hi, I'm Jayne Mansfield!" says a breathless soundalike since Jayne was quite dead by the time this was assembled. "For the next couple of hours, I'd like you to come along with me! I want you to share some of the wild way-out experiences I had during my last trip around the world!" See: Jayne strutting around Rome and being surrounded by MICKEY HARGITAY and other musclemen at the Park of Gladiators: "I would have given anything to have been at an ancient Roman party! Most of the time they turned into orgies!" See: Jayne in a fountain at the Cannes Film Festival: "Oh, what a girl has to do for her career!" See: Jayne visiting the nudist colony at the Isle of Levant and splashing in water like a damn fool: "l hope nobody sees me like this! It's alright for a movie but not in real life!" Real life? Famed for her platinum-blond hair and voluptuous figure, she emerged during the 1950's appetite for glamorous sex symbols led by Marilyn Monroe. In February 1955, Mansfield was the Playmate of the Month in Playboy, for which she would pose several more times over the ensuing years. In April of 1957, Jayne pulled off one of the most notorious publicity acts in history by upstaging Sophia Loren during a party in Loren's honor. Mansfield, having already upstaged Jane Russell at a premiere party by coming out of a swimming pool topless a few years earlier, pulled off a similar stunt with Sophia Loren by literally pulling out her breasts at the table Loren was seated at. Russ Meyer said that Jayne's reputation for being large breasted was a false one and that it was due mainly to her large ribcage and tireless attention getting schemes that had the press continually fixated on her chest. Mansfield was unable to upstage Anita Ekberg who had the largest natural breasts in Hollywood history. It is said that upon seeing Anita Ekberg in person Jayne got back into her car and drove away! Mansfield won a Golden Globe in 1957 for Most Promising Newcomer - Female, beating out Carroll Baker and Natalie Wood. Although her flamboyant persona made her tough to cast, she was widely considered Marilyn Monroe's number one rival in a crowded field of contenders that included Mamie Van Doren, Diana Dors, and some others. Mansfield was also a singer and headlined in Las Vegas. In 1963 she released her now cult record "Shakespeare, Tchaikovsky and Me" in which she reads classical poetry with a background of Tchaikovsky's music. She died in a car accident in 1967, the cause and the circumstances of which remain unclear. Jayne Mansfield has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.Enjoy Jayne's beauty and charming singing! | | Jayne Mansfield in "Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?"
