Frank Zappa's Last Interview (TRANSCRIBED IN INFO BOX)
Frank Zappa's last television interview. He is talking about his friend Nicolas Slonimsky, 1993. Sorry about the poor quality. Some of you have commented that you find it difficult to hear what is being said. Here's what Frank says: "He's just a brilliant mind. And a very warm-hearted spirit. And these are qualities not often found linked together in human beings. And... I just liked him. One of the things I really liked about him was his wardrobe. I always was impressed with his wardrobe from the first time he came over, because he had that look. He had the look of a real guy from that era, you know what I mean? The right kind of shoes, the right kind of tweed, rumple, worn for a thousand years. Kinda... sport coat, pants too short. He was wonderful. He was a fully developed character." Nicolas Slonimsky (1894-1995) was a musicologist, conductor, composer, author and much more. Check out his lectures on archive.org or simply do a google search. Zappa was right when he said that Slonimsky was a wonderful person.
Deep Purple - Smoke On The Water
Live at the California Jam 6th April 1974 at the Ontario Speedway Los Angeles. We all came out to Montreux On the Lake Geneva shoreline To make records with a mobile We didn't have much time Frank Zappa and the Mothers Were at the best place around But some stupid with a flare gun Burned the place to the ground Smoke on the water, fire in the sky They burned down the gambling house It died with an awful sound Funky Claude was running in and out Pulling kids out the ground When it all was over We had to find another place But Swiss time was running out It seemed that we would lose the race Smoke on the water, fire in the sky We ended up at the Grand Hotel It was empty cold and bare But with the Rolling truck Stones thing just outside Making our music there With a few red lights and a few old beds We make a place to sweat No matter what we get out of this I know we'll never forget Smoke on the water, fire in the sky
