 | Mae West sings with Xavier Cugat orch 1936 Sultry, sexy Mae West sings with Xavier Cugat's latin band in the movie "Go West Young Man" with cowboy star Randolph Scott (although is not a western movie). Among the musicians in Cugat's orchestra: composer Nilo Menendez ("Green eyes"), piano and "Ņico" Lopez, bongo, from Cuba; from Puerto Rico; drums; Alberto Calderon; Jose Piņa "Piņita", trumpet; Pedro Berrios, guitar player that appears playing the gourd or güiro and Catalino Rolon: maraccas. Catalino would turn into a manager, hiring bands to play in the Palladium and other latino hot spots in the 50's-70's. The screenplay was written by Mae. After singing with Cugat, you will see Mae being the "Bad Girl" that swallows and chews the men and spit them out, no mercy at all and even throws cigarette smoke at her current lover's face. The way she walks, talks and sneer at those poor devils is a study of acting, missing from today's starlets. Certainly, she was the baddest and meanest of them all and no doubt, the sexiest!!! |
